Sharing My Afternoon Conversation With Sofia ~ a peak inside by Katrina Curtiss 6/26/2020

Sofia: Did you read that the Dixie Chicks are changing their name to just Chicks?”
Me: (sighing) “Why yes, I did”
Sofia: “What’s Dixie?”
Me: (I start singing the song “I wish I was in Dixie”) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prBXNwxjU4I&fbclid=IwAR2ck0EP2v5-wrkUmAYx55dCMYLwu0hjkoqmI2DUkxgTW-i9P5vkG-U6mOc

Sofia: “So…?”

I run to the computer to look up the history of the song, because I think facts matter. https://sdpb.sd.gov/deadwoodsongbook/resources/Song%20Dixie.pdf?fbclid=IwAR1RIyl-KtRnzsiZEqR7VcrpE3JF6X9JWOV6Yy2a2O_VqQYm3p5RBtmVuq4

Sofia: “I don’t get your country…”
Me: “Yeah, sometimes, me too..”

It’s interesting because some of us might find the word “chicks” derogatory (i.e. Definition of chick. 1a : a domestic chicken especially : one newly hatched. b : the young of any bird. 2 : child. 3 informal + sometimes offensive : girl, woman.)

We can go on and on and on ~ but this is exhausting. #girlwithguitar
