Anniversaries are usually a time of celebration.
A day to remember, something special.
A memory lodged forever, dusted off once a year.
Anniversaries are sometimes a time of sadness.
A day to remember, something lost
A memory lodged forever, dusted off once a year,
One can feel as it approaches, the change of season,
It’s the little things, unnoticed by others.
It’s always fall for me.
Always the same, almost 40 years later.
Tonight, memories of you last night wrap themselves around me.
Loneliness descends and whispers, “It’s me again.”
I feel it, as all motherless children do,
That longing to have just one more day.
One more cup of coffee together on a Sunday morning,
One more, “I love you.”
If you were alive today, you’d still be a democrat,
Oh, the conversations we would have.
If you were alive today, we’d still have Sunday family dinners,
Oh, how I miss those.
I’ve done my best to keep you alive all these years.
Tried to walk in your footsteps of kindness.
Tried to always do my best.
For as you always said, “Who could ask for anything more?”
It was just you and me when you left the morning of October 11th1981.
It was an honor to be with you.
I’ll never understand why it was just you and me.
Our last words of “I love you” echo for eternity.
Yes, I loved you best, Jeanne Marie Curtiss
You were the best mom.
Much love always, your #3 daughter, Katrina Jeanne #girlwithguitar
So sweet! What an inspiration your mom will forever be! That was her gift to you and now to all of us! Blessings and virtual hugs!
