I was setting up to host a Kid’s Open Mic when a guy walked up and said, “I know who you are and I know what you do…” I quickly scanned my brain trying to find a reference, when he said. “It’s about what you do for kids and music, I think it’s great and I want to help.” He reached into his wallet. pulled out a brand new $100.00 bill and laid it by my tip jar. I told him, he didn’t need to, and he said, yes he did.
My lesson: I sometimes teach for free, sometimes teach too long, give away instruments when they’re going to a good home. I give up solo gigs to host Open Mics to create a venue for my students. Sometimes, someone says that I don’t know my worth and that my time is important. My reply is yes I do and yes it is. I was touched by his random act of kindness and believe it’s a sign that I’m on the right path. If this has ever happened to you, I’d love to know, either giving or receiving. #girlwithguitar #gratefulteacher
