Thursday Morning Musing

Salute,

Recently, I’ve been submitting my original music to several places, songwriting contests, college radio stations, song promoters, etc. and nothing has stuck to the wall yet. The most important word in that last sentence is “yet”. I did get some good feedback, which has me rethinking my approach to songwriting; Get better at it! Some of the feedback says my songs should be no longer than 3 minutes and they’re too slow. This has me revisiting what I think are my best songs. Lots to do, lots to do. Never give up, stay the path, eye on the ball.

The following inspirational quote from multiple Grammy award winner, Rob Chiarelli just arrived in my email. The timing is perfect for me, maybe for you too.

“When my writing partner and I started writing for film and TV, nothing was sticking. We decided, it’s not them, it’s us. We have to get better.
If we get a little better every day, one day we’ll get something. The goal was one placement”

“To improve every day seems like a simple thing but it’s really, really hard.
And to look at the rejection as: “OK, it’s not right for them, and we can make excuses, but ultimately, we’ve got to get better.”
And when we’re good enough and consistent enough, by the law of the universe, something is going to have to materialize”

“To improve every day seems like a simple thing but it’s really, really hard.
And to look at the rejection as: “OK, this music is not right for them, and we can make excuses, but ultimately, we’ve got to get better.”

“And when we’re good enough and consistent enough, by the law of the universe, something is going to have to materialize.

“And it did.”

It’s amazing how the Universe leads us a hand when we most need it, so off I go trying to improve today, getting good enough for something to materialize, hoping you’ll join me. In the words of Mr. Rogers, “Won’t Ya Be My Neighbor?”
