Basura Takes a Cool Cat Nap on The Fridge

My Cat Was Playing Hide And Seek ~ a short poem by Katrina Curtiss 4/28/2020

It was just an ordinary day
Another with At Home I Stay
It had been hours since I’d seen my cat
I started to wonder, where she was at

I looked in her bed, top to bottom
Searched every season from summer to autumn
I searched though my socks, cupboards and more
I searched every shadow, behind every door

Had she escaped, somehow unseen?
A cat without claws, if you know what I mean
Out in the world, with skunks and raccoons
I must find my cat, Oh, I must find her soon!

It was 2am and still no luck,
So outside into the dark I snuck
“Basura, Basura!!” at the top of my voice I did say
And someone yelled back, “They collect on Wednesday!”

Empty handed and sad, I went back home
Thinking my cat was afraid, all alone
When sitting on top of my fridge, what did I see?
My Basura Cat smiling down at me

Today’s Musing: Definition of Basura: “An adjective or an exclamation of something bad. It is also the Spanish word for trash or garbage” #girlwithguitar
