To Gig or Not to Gig ~ Feeling Untethered In A World Of Uncertainty
I played a gig last night, the first one since COVID-19 came to town.
I hesitated taking it, but the venue is an open air space, outside, lots of fresh, circulating air.
Minding that I’m a “Stay At Home” kid, it was kind of a big deal for me to go out into the world.
When we saw a big spike in the number of positive COVID-19 cases this past week, I thought, “Curses!!” I considered cancelling, but didn’t.
I really miss playing live, it feeds my soul, but at what cost? Does the reward outweigh the risk?
It was hard to keep the 6 feet of separation; it was difficult to remember to keep pulling up my mask when not performing; it was strange to see only 6 tables where there use to be so many.
I can’t imagine how any venue can afford to pay musicians who are booked to bring in a crowd, when a crowd isn’t allowed.
I was surprised that people weren’t wearing facemasks, I stayed 12 feet away from them, no judgment, but those people kind of scare me.
I’m reevaluating things this morning. Is “playing out” a wise decision right now?
Seems like I’ve forever trying to “wait it out,” for things to “calm down.”
