Taking a break from the chaos in the world, I keep up my daily phone calls with my forever friend, Marcia Rose.
Marcia has been battling Lyme Disease for the last 15 years, it hit her brain, for lack of medical terms, slowly she has lost the use of her body and eyesight.
For years we didn’t speak, I would try, she would resist, finally about 4 years ago she took my call.
I was so excited to hear her voice, then she said, “I haven’t taken your calls, because I don’t know who you are.”
I was stunned, we’d been friends for years and then sadly accepted that Lyme had robbed her of memories. I became a storyteller, trying to pain a picture of the woman she had been, no longer was.
Since that day, I’ve tried to call her everyday. Her world has gotten incredibly small, friends have fallen by the wayside. It takes a lot of emotional energy to stand next to someone so sick.
Back in 2018, when she was in financial trouble, I held a music fundraiser for her. So many people donated their time and talents to help make the day a huge success and to give her hope, lighten her heart that strangers cared.
Recently, she has taken a turn for the worse, Hospice has been called in. Her partner is the bravest, strongest person that I know.
Having lost my mother when just 21, being her caretaker, I have great compassion for anyone who devotes their life to those of others.
This week, Marcia Rose wanted a new song, a song that was rebellious, that reached out to the world reflecting her angst.
This is what we can up with, the song was her idea, some of the lyrics hers also ~ she feels that she had nothing to do with the final product,
truth is, it’s all hers.
Great message and great song for your friend!!
