In between reading the news and teaching, I’m working on booking gigs. Ugh ~ the amount of time a musician must spend on booking ~ marketing ~ practicing, it takes a lot of time. But oh, I remember working in the corporate world and how much time was spent working as a number, not a person.
So, how freaking lucky am I?
Hmmm, I starting writing this and lost my train of thought – Curse you old age!
I’m torn, like most of you I suspect ~ with the recent loss of lives due to gun violence.
I am trying to figure out if I am scared.
I made a promise to myself that if I ever felt scared in my homeland that I would leave.
I don’t go out much – call it the “COVID Hangover”
As a result, I don’t find myself in crowded places.
I read something that I hated; it was about how we should look for
“Exits” in stores, churches, everywhere…in the event that a gunman enters.
Gunman — or Gunmen —Never Gunwoman or Gunwomen – take note!
Leaving for me is an option due to having family that is Portuguese.
Leaving for me is an option because I’m part owner in a rehab home in Portugal
Leaving for me is an option – an escape route from the land that I love.
Curse you opportunity ~ decisions must be made.
I love my country ~ I am a child of the 60’s Civil Rights Marches, the invasion of the Beatles, our first landing on the Moon, Vietnam and the senseless assassinations of great advocates for equality and freedom.
But…something has changed.
I use to view the world as like a beautiful stained glass window.
It seems that every pane is being broken and shattered, sharp shards lay upon the ground and I must be careful where I walk and talk.
I suspect that I am not alone in my disappointment.
I suspect that I am not alone in my aloneness.
It makes me absolutely crazy when people say, “oh well”
I makes me absolutely crazy when people say, “I don’t watch the news, it’s too sad”
It makes me absolutely crazy when the media jumps on a story before they have all the facts ~ leading us in circles, no wonder I’m dizzy.
It makes me absolutely crazy that people don’t vote
I could go on, but then you would call me “absolutely crazy.”
My point?
Good God, I just went to feed Basura Cat and once again, I’ve forgotten it.
I think all I want to say is this…
For you parents afraid to drop your kids off at school ~ I get it
For you gun owners who practice safety, ~ I appreciate it
For you Musicians who are looking for gigs ~ I get it
For you teachers – man, what a situation you’re in ~ I honor you!
For you who stay and fight – donate, march and speak out ~ Rock On!!!
For those of you leaving ~ hey I get it ~ no judgment here
For those of you undecided ~ I urge you, please decide!
For those of you angry ~ get a pet ~ unconditional love is underrated
For those of you who don’t vote ~ I totally don’t get it
For those of you who read this ~ Hey ~ Thank You!
