What Do Ya Know, Sofia Built A Patio ~ a short poem by Katrina Curtiss 6/22/2020

I’ve mentioned before about Sofia and her “She Shed”
And how she makes things, she thinks of in her head
The latest thing she made was a patio
How she did this I never will know.

She took down the old one and reused the wood
And used it with new wood to make something good
She leveled it, with our crooked old house
She hid extra screws in the pocket of her blouse.

She cut and she sawed over the weekend
She even turned down help from a friend
She said she knew what she wanted in her mind
I thought at times, she was in a tight bind.

I helped her lift and level some wood
I tried to help any, which way I could
But she shooed me away and worked all alone
Getting tips from her dad when they talked on the phone.

Last night, when she finally went to bed
I snuck out to see her work from her “She Shed”
Oh the wonderment under the moon did I see
A new patio all finished and so lovely.

Now if we only could have friends over for a nice drink
I’d love to hear everything that they think
My only worry is now, when there’s nothing to do
Sofia might want to come to your house and build something new.
