Since COVID~19, my life has changed from working full-time to part-time. Sometimes, I have a complete day off. Usually, I find things to do, play, practice, write, read, study, sometimes not so much. With student cancelations, today I had too much free time on my hands. I pondered if this is what it’s like to be retired. Having worked all of my life, this is a “strange” time of adjustments on several levels. Today, I just wanted to write something about the 3rd act of life.
For-Get-Me-Not ~ by me 10/7/2020
I lost my shoes, I lost my socks.
I lost my favorite wristwatch.
I found my glasses in a drawer,
But forgot what I needed them for.
Oh, this forgetfulness is such a rot,
I rebuy things I have already got.
I watch a movie until the end,
And have to watch it all over again.
I lost my mask and can’t go out,
I lost my voice, so cannot shout.
I lost my phone, so can’t call you,
Oh what is this woman going to do?
I killed a roach, it felt like a sin,
Until I realized it was just a raisin.
My eyes, my ears, are getting old,
My friends have to listen to stores retold.
Oh, this forgetfulness is such a rot,
Once a Rose, now a For-Get-Me-Not.
A fade, a fold, Summer to Fall,
Once the Princess, now the Queen of the ball.
Today’s Musing: “Youth is wasted on the young” ~ quote by Jeanne Marie Curtiss, mother of me. #girlwithguitar
Old age is golden, I know it’s been said
but sometimes I wonder as I crawl into bed
with my ears in a drawer, my teeth in a cup
my eyes on the table until I wake up
singing so long, it’s been good to know ya
so long, it’s been good to know ya
so long, it’s been good to know ya
but it’s been a long time since I’ve been gone
and I gotta be movin’ along
