A lot of what’s happening in the world doesn’t directly affect me, I’m a musician, private music teacher so that’s my small world.
I haven’t played a gig in over two months, haven’t hosted an Open mic, taught a lesson face to face, haven’t done much, outside of write within my own 4 walls.

That’s why it’s essential to talk to those of you who are considered essential; you are my eyes and ears. You are my finger on the pulse of the world. You are my COVID-19 Connection.

Only through your eyes, do I know about the missed graduations from High School to College, from College out into the world.

Only through your eyes, do I know that people are and aren’t wearing facemasks, I believe your stories, not what I read in the news.

Only through your eyes, do I know personal stories of people losing their business and life savings due to being closed

Only through your eyes, do I get to see people rushing out to a recently opened bar, social distancing be damned.

Only though your eyes, do I see the how much going to Church is missed, how separated you feel from your flock.

Only through your eyes, do I know the pain of not visiting a sick loved one.

Only though your eyes, do I gain a greater understanding of what’s happening.

For some of you, it’s just another day, you’re still going to work, but for the some of us who aren’t, it’s different. Yes, staying at home is a choice, but right now it’s my choice. An invite to come over and make music in the driveway, just doesn’t feel right in this moment.

Like the world, I’ll have to eventually “reopen” my life; I just have a gut feeling that I need to wait until June to see how things go. It’s not much to complain about, but being an extrovert, I need the energy of others, the sharing of ideas; it’s what makes my world go round.

But for now its hours of writing, of studying things that matter to me, I thought, I’d have to wait until retirement for this experience, guess not.
