My Cat and Her Karl (Basura Breaks The Rules) ~ a short poem by Katrina Curtiss 4/25/2020

My cat was taking a bath,
I had to laugh, a cat in the bath
She primped and she preened
What a comical scene, she even gargled with Listerine

Then suddenly there was a knock on the door
A sound I had rarely heard before
Barsura said with a wicked snarl
“Open the door, it’s my best friend, Karl”

I whispered, “We’re not letting anyone in
She didn’t care, she was missing her friend
So in he did come, with barely a word to say
He picked up Basura and they started to play

He tickled her ears and played with her tail
Basura, purred, “You’re my favorite male”
He said to her, “I’ve missed you, ya know
They chatted for a while, then off did he go

My cat broke the rules, she let in her best friend
And she most likely, she will do it again
They simply could not stay 6 feet apart
Because her friend Karl, lives in the very center of her heart.
