Basura Tries Her Paw At Painting

The Cat Who Tried Her Paw At Painting ~ a short poem by Katrina Curtiss 4/11/2020

I thought that I was going to faint
When my cat said she wanted to paint
It will be hard ‘cuz you’re not very tall
But that didn’t phase her, no not at all

So up the ladder, she slowly crept
Taking her time with every step
But before she reached the very top
Out of her paw, the paintbrush did drop

It fell to the floor with such a clatter
And everywhere the paint did splatter
Onto the door, the windows and more
She ran from the room and hid in a drawer

“Come back!” I shouted, “Come clean up your mess!”
And out she came wearing her Sunday dress
She said, “Easter’s tomorrow, Incase you’re unaware
So, I trying on my outfit, so I can prepare.”

I picked her up and looked in her eye
And said, “you can’t give up on everything you try”
She perfectly purred and fell fast asleep
As I continued to paint as she counted sheep
