Basra Wears A Face Mask

My Cat Watches The News ~ a short poem by Katrina Curtiss 4 21/2020

Poor Basura, has got the blues
she’s been watching too much news
She’s in distress, her mind is a mess
after watching Trump dismiss the press

I held her close and turned off the TV,
said. “Basura, we live in a Democracy
My cat started to scream, she started to shout
“Promise me, that in November, you’ll toss him out!”

I promised, but she didn’t care
unable to sleep or to go anywhere
She wouldn’t play, she couldn’t sleep
she was anxious with fears running deep

I rubbed her ears to tried to calm her down
and tried to turn her thinking around
She tried to bite me and threw a fit
Oh her bad mood,  it just wouldn’t quit

I gave her a mask to wear on her face
and said, “Okay now, you can go anyplace
but keep 6 feet between you and him
or I’ll make you stay at home again”

So out did she go, on her merry way
Off to see friends, to chat and to play
So let that be a lesson to you
Turn off the tv and find something to do
