I was Afraid ~ by Katrina Curtiss 5/27/2020

This is in response to what happened to George Floyd, may he rest in peace. The story is in the link, the poem is about my friendly UPS Delivery man ~ how I felt when I saw him today. (My country is depressing the hell out of me ~ people are outraged about being asked to wear a frickin’ mask ~ this my friends, demands outrage)

I was Afraid ~ by me 5/27/2020

When he made his delivery today, I wanted to ask him if he is afraid, but I was afraid that I would offend him.

When he made his delivery today, I wanted to offer him something, to ease my pain, but I was afraid.

When he made his delivery today, I wanted to hug him, but I was afraid.

When he headed back to his UPS truck, I wanted to shout to him, “Be Careful,” but I was afraid.

When he left to continue making his deliveries, I was afraid.

I am not afraid of him, I AM afraid for him.

I am afraid that nothing that I will be able to accomplish in my lifetime will change the racism that weaves a path of death and destruction.

Here’s the story about what just happened to George Floyd, may he rest in peace.

(The following is not mine, but rings true for me)
I’m not black, but I see you.
I’m not black, but I hear you.
I’m not black, but I’ll stand with you.
I’m not black, but I mourn for you.
I’m not black, but I mourn with you.

This is so true. In your own words and the one not in your own words. I love them both!
