Basura Wears Ear Muffs On The 4th Of July

My Cat and 4th Of July Fireworks ~ a short poem by Katrina Curtiss 7/4/2020

Basura cat ran up onto my lap
And exclaimed, “Holy Crap!”
“Today is the 4th; I know that I’m right
The neighbors will light off fireworks tonight!”

“The sound is so loud, snap, crackle and pop
As soon as it starts, I want it to stop!
I’ll have to find a good place to hide
Pillows over my head, taped side to side.”

“Will you hide in the closet with me
Until they stop their noisy reverie?
Maybe we can go sit in the bath
With earmuffs on, that will make us laugh”

“Why do you humans make such a noise?
Always busy playing with all of your toys
Why when you celebrate your liberty
Do you make it so hard for me?”

“Basura,” I said as I held her near
“We’ll find something to cover your ears
And I will sit up with you until it stops
Until all is snapped, crackled and popped.”

Today’s Musing: “If you want to see stars, come here, I’ll bop you in the eye” ~ Quote by Basura, owner of me #girlwithguitar
