Basura ~ Chairman of the Bored

My Cat Campaigns To Be Chairman Of The Bored ~ a short poem by Katrina Curtiss 4/14/2020

It was early this morning, I needed to play
My cat took my chair, and there she did stay
She meowed, “I’m now Chairman of the Bored”
I asked, “don’t you mean board?” As I sat on the floor

“No, I mean bored, as in nothing to do
There’s got to be more than just being with you”
“Basura,” I whispered, “you’re being so mean
It’s just you and me and this Covid-19”

My cat was edgy, short tempered and blue
She obviously needed something to do
I put on some music, and started to dance
I put on a hat and some polka dot pants

She started to laugh, in spite of her mood
Then I went and got her a bowl of new food
She started to purr and jumped onto my lap
with a Cheshire smile, she took a long nap

I thought to my self, this is such a tough time
I must remember to be extra kind
It’s harder for those and lonely for some
As I whispered, “God bless us each and every one.”
