My Cat Tries To Be A Hairdresser ~ a short poem by Katrina Curtiss 4/17/2020

As I was lying asleep in my bed
My cat jumped on the top of my head
I asked, “what are you doing up there?”
She meowed; “I’m going to color your hair”

Up with a start, I ran from the room
She chased me shouting; “I just want to groom
You’ve got a grey racing stripe on the top your head
Come back, come back, come back to this bed!”

I said, “No one see’s me so what does it matter
if my hair turns grey and I’m getting fatter?”
She said, “I see you, I’m with you everyday
Come one let me take care of your grey”

“I won’t do it”, I said, “You’ll make me a mess”
She pleaded; “Come on I’ll do my best
I’ll make you look young, pretty and neat
Then we can do a makeover from your head to your feet”

“There’s no reason to bother, we’re just here by ourselves”
As I put the hair color away on the shelf
Basura sadly asked, “Where is your pride?”
I whispered, “True beauty comes from inside.”
