Basura Prepares For Killer Hornets

My Cat Hears About The Killer Hornets ~ a short poem by Katrina Curtiss 5/7/2020

My cat came to me, wearing her high-heeled shoes
She asked, “Honey, Have you heard the news?
There’s a Killer Hornet now in the U.S.”
As she started trying on her new blue dress

“Why the get-up?” I asked her most honestly
As she waltzed around so prettily
She was looking quite fancy into the mirror
And insisted on fine wine instead of a beer

“Oh, I’m upgrading myself, with everything new
I’m sure, I going to survive much longer than you
With the virus, the black hole, and now this
You humans just aren’t having much success”

“Monster Murder Hornets have been sighted in Washington State
I hope that your will is up to date
Leave everything to me, including the clock on the wall
I want it, everything, I want it all!”

“Basura” I cried, “You’re such a dramatic cat!
Not everything in the news is a definite fact
There are stories of Hornets, alien ships in the sky
The stories get crazier as the days go by”

As she picked out a purse, She said, “Things will get worse
It seems that you humans are under a curse!”
And that’s how my cat feels, as she prepares for the day
She’s now prettier than me, and that’s how she’ll stay
