My Cat Complains About The Heat ~ a short poem by Katrina Curtiss 6/6/2020

It’s so hot, said my cat, sitting under the fan
It feels like a million degrees; turn it up if you can
Get me some ice cubes, put them by my feet
I cannot tolerate this terrible heat!

Brush all of my hair, let’s shave it all off
Then no more hairballs, will I cough
Give me ice cream and ice tea, make it for me
Oh please, won’t you stand there and blow upon me?

Close all of the windows and turn up the A/C
Do it now, hurry up, and take care of poor me!
I would take an ice bath, but waters not my friend
Oh, when will this heat, ever come to an end?

I eat and I nap, then I nap and I eat
I get so tired in this San Antonio heat
The sun is so high starting at noon
I’ll wait to play under the light of the moon.

Oh, please can we open the refrigerator door
For just a few minutes, maybe a little bit more?
For now, I’ll lay on my chair, under cool air
While you run around in your underware
