I’m noticing more and more stories being posted that only show one side of the story, responses are fast and furious. I got out of the news business when I realized that I was repeating things that I had no way of confirming, I wasn’t there, so I didn’t know the “real” truth. I respectfully suggest that we take a beat, and allow all the facts to rise to the surface before we help spread the deafening noise of half truths.

A Word of Warning From A Former News Reporter ~ a short poem by Katrina Curtiss 6/24/2020
There’s something that I need to say to you
And it’s BEWARE of what you read in the news
I’m seeing stories that aren’t quite true
Please, be aware of what’s influencing you.
A Headline pops up and it says one thing
Refocusing our attention, rising tensions it brings
It causes many to have a knee jerk reaction
And runs us around in every direction.
So check many sources before you repeat
On Facebook, on Instagram, before your retweet
Don’t be part of the problem, do your research
Don’t let misinformation become your new church.
What I see is a story that breaks, seems it’s real
And it causes so many emotions, we reel and we feel
Then a couple days later, they report it’s not true
But the damage has been done to both me and to you
So before you believe everything and react
Do more than just read the headline, research the facts
Don’t let the news sway what you say and you see
Don’t let their perception become your reality.
