Is This My America? ~ a short poem by Katrina Curtiss 5/3/2020

People are divided more than into two
Both sides claim they know what to do
Some grab their guns and take to the street
Some stay on the same dirt, beneath their own feet

I remember a time of peaceful demonstrations
When people joined hands and changed our nation
Hands didn’t hold guns and intimidate
False news didn’t dictate and fabricate

A business man who worked 30 years
Closed his doors, as he fought to keep back the tears
He needed a hand, but it reached higher up
With Corporations getting a much bigger cup

The world watches our fight, out right to be free
As tears roll down the cheeks of Lady Liberty
People are confused, righteous with pride
Not knowing if they are on the right side

Is this bigger or smaller, we may never know
As tensions on both sides continue to grow
Go out, stay in, it’s your personal call
As United We Stand, Divided We Fall
