My Cat’s Conversation With God ~ A short poem by Katrina Curtiss 4/10/2020

My cat came to me with something important to say
My goodness, our second talk in one day
She told she just had a conversation with God
I thought to myself, this is certainly odd

“What did God say to you?” I whispered in her ear
She continued to purr, her eyes started to tear
“It’s something that only you humans do
And it’s gotten worse, now that there’s the flu”

“It’s not the flu” I gently said to my cat,
“It’s Covid-19 as a matter of fact”
My cat said, to me, “It’s all the same,
Everybody’s looking for somebody else to blame”

“Where it came from, where it goes, nobody knows”
As I petted her from her tail to her nose
“What matters is that you each do your part
And that you all learn to work from your heart”

As she jumped off my lap and went on her way
I sat silent, with nothing to say
But I did wonder if she had prayed on bended knee
As I realized that my cat was much smarted than me.

Sweet, Basura. Yes, we must all ‘work from the heart’.
