My Cat Has Conjunctivitis ~ a short poem by Katrina Curtiss 7/2/2020

Basura cat and me are in a great fight
I have to give her eye drops both day and night
“ I hate them” she said to me
I replied, “You need them, so that you can see”

I call her, she run and hides under the bed
Pulling her out, is something I dread
Then with eye drops in hand, and fear in my heart
The eye drops adventure, both do we start

I hold her tight against my chest
I’m guessing that you can guess the rest
She kicks and she bites with all of her might
I can only hold on with all of my might

One drop in one eye, one drop in the other
She’s like a small child, I’m like her mother
When finally the eye drops are dropped in place
She looks at me, like I’m a disgrace

Oh my cat, she’s usually so kind and gentle
But sometimes she like cooked jalapeños and lentils
Every 6 hours until the end
When Basura and I can be friends again.

You are her mom. Yes you are. She knows you’re doing it because you love her. She’ll forgive you soon enough! Hang in there you two!?
