I Miss Ruth Bader Ginsburg ~ By Katrina Curtiss ~ May 5th 2022

Them: ‘WE MUST TAKE DOWN THOSE STATUES!”

Me: “Leave them up, so that we always remember and learn from their mistakes.”
Me: “Erasing our mistakes, does not make them disappear.”
Me: “Don’t you have anything better to do?”

Them: ‘WE MUST NOT LET CHILDREN READ THESE BOOKS!”

Me: “If reading those books makes them think, then Huzzah!”
Me: “If it offends you, then don’t read it, leave my bookshelf alone.”
Me: “Don’t you have anything better to do?”

Them: ‘WE MUST STOP THEM FROM LEARNING CRITICAL THEORY!”

Me: “Do you really understand what critical theory is?”
Me: “Why are you afraid to examine the intersection of race, society and law in our country?
Me: “Don’t you have anything better to do?”

Them: “WE MUST OVERTURN ROE VS. WADE!!”

Me: “If you are so pro-life, why isn’t healthcare free to pregnant women?
“If you are do pro-life, adopt the babies to prevent abortions, make contraceptives free”
“If you put this in the hands of the states, Texas is doomed”
“What’s next: Interaction Marriage, Gay Rights…etc.?
“Screw you Supreme Court! – Barricades around your building, no wonder!”
“The 14th Amendment – the right to privacy*
Me:   “Don’t you have anything better to do?”

Someone asked me: “If it doesn’t affect you, why do you care so much?”

As #45 brought out the bullies, I believe it also brought out the heroes.

May we never repeat that mistake ~ Never another Bully in our White House!

Often I have looked at statues of those who were revered by some, detested by others and my foremost thought was amazement at the artistry of the statue, then I thought about the person immortalized and if I respected their decisions and hoped that we all learned lessons good and bad.

I remember the Civil Right Marches of the ‘60s, I remember the backroom abortions prior to 1973.

I remember my joy in reading many of the books that are now banned in some schools.

I know descimition and repression, we have danced many a dance.

It amazes me that in the year 2022, we still fight about when life begins and when it ends.
“Don’t abort that child!” “Don’t euthanize that dying man!”

I was once told that I should be careful about giving advice, because in my coveted book of “Katrina Knows Everything” the pages are actually blank.

What I do instead is try to share my experience, strength and hope.

My experience: This is the most that I have witnessed my government trying to take away the rights of the people, I have never known such political division, people following #45, it’s terrifying.
My Strength: When given an opportunity to move to another country, I will stay and fight to make my country great again.
My Hope: We must stop the internal fighting and put that energy towards solutions.

We are suffocating ourselves with anger and compliancy. Let us focus upon what we have in common, not  our differences.

My Prayer for the world…

May we aspire to the greatness of our collective souls.
Respectfully written ~ Katrina Jeanne

*Does the 14th Amendment protect abortion?

The Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution provides a fundamental “right to privacy” that protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose whether to have an abortion.
